Fixing Bathroom Problems: Why does my Shower Water Smell Bad?

You were about to treat yourself to a refreshing shower and while turning on the shower, it starts to dispense water but something smells bad. A sewage-like smell of water can turn your shower mood off and just ruin your start to fresh self.

The sewage-like smell can be made up of build-up molds and mildews from over time use. To help resolve this bathroom problem here’s a list of things you can do on how to fix your shower water issue:

1. SOAK THE SHOWER HOSE AND HEAD IN BLEACH AND WATER SOLUTION

Disassemble your shower and let it soak fully on a mix of bleach and water to remove the built up molds and mildews. After, rinse it with water.

You can also try to soak it in vinegar and water mixture but can be a bit expensive than the initial suggested mix but if it solves the problem then why not. Rinse it well with water.

Note: Do not mix vinegar and bleach as it might damage your shower or can harm you too.

2. IF USING CARBON FILTER

Carbon filter does a good job in filtering unwanted contaminants but can become hazardous. If you happen to be using carbon filter on the shower, best to ditch this one.

Carbon filters are best used on faucets with regular water flow. Carbon is required to be flushed with water regularly to avoid bacteria trapped to be idly sitting which then encourages bacteria and mold growth.

3. REPLACEMENT OF THE SHOWER IS NECESSARY

If you have investigated and done the above tips but still left the same odor then it is best to have it replaced to once and for all rid you of this problem.

Our shower collection just about has almost every shower design so you are sure to find the replacement perfect fit for your current shower setup.

If the problem still persists after replacing your shower fixture, best to refer to tip#4.

4. GO TO THE MAIN WATER SOURCE

If you happen to have your own water tank chances are rust bacteria have developed which then causes this problem. If you aren’t knowledgeable about this, best to ask a plumber for help on this one.

MAINTENANCE TIP: LET YOUR SHOWER HANG DOWN

Longer shower hoses tend to have water sitting inside after use which can then lead to this kind of problem. It is best to let it hang down when not in use to dispense excess water after use and dry up the inside of your hose.

Quick tip: shower systems are best paired with a reliable shower tray to fully drain shower water avoiding future accidents.
